Yangfang Hutong in Beijing is home to one of the great restaurants devoted to Imperial Court Food, Li Jia Cai Restaurant. Li Shanlin, a retired professor of mathematics, who also has great interest in genuine Beijing Imperial Court Food, established the restaurant. The restaurant is a family-owned and operated enterprise with no outside help, the owner and his family both cooking and serving the set menu. Li and his family only serve one banquet daily, so if you want to experience his Imperial Court food, it is essential to book ahead. All food is authentic without additional additives or flavor-enhancers (such as MSG). The restaurant has welcomed many celebrities including former President Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, John Major (the former British Prime Minister), and Chinese superstar Jacky Chan. Professor Li is happy to talk with you in English about Chinese culture as you enjoy his restaurant's delicacies. Average cost is 400 RMB per couple.
