Known as the largest Catholic Church in Beijing, it is strking for its Gothic architecture, white marble doors and window frames, and eleven towers. The church was opened in 1703, torn down in 1887 because of the expansion of Zhongnanhai, and finally restored in 1985. Statues of saints stand on both sides of the main entrance, a feature not seen in any other Beijing churches.
